About the Journal
Al-Mustansiriyah Journal of Science (MJS) (p-ISSN: 1814-635X, e-ISSN: 2521-3520) is a scientific research journal issued by the Mustansiriyah University. The journal follows an open-access policy and employs a double-blind peer-review process. It publishes original research papers quarterly, covering main research areas: Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Physics. The selection of papers is based on their scientific originality and interdisciplinary relevance.
To ensure the quality of publications, the editorial board consults a committee and reviewers consisting of distinguished scientists from both Iraqi universities and globally recognized institutions. The primary aim of the journal is to enhance the standard of scientific research within Iraq and contribute to the dissemination of knowledge across various scientific domains, aligning with the disciplines encompassed in the journal's scope.
The journal exclusively accepts papers in the English language, and all submitted articles undergo thorough plagiarism checks via anti-plagiarism programs. This meticulous approach enables the journal to uphold the highest standards, ensuring that all published papers are credible, pertinent, and valuable to the scientific community.

The journal published four issues per volume each year. The following table illustrated the schedule date to publish each issue (2017-present). Sometimes, the journal published five issues per year, the extra issue(s) corresponding to conferences.

Peer Review Timeline
- Submission Acknowledgment:

Copyright and licensing
The journal applies a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license of (CC BY-NC). This license allows authors to keep ownership of the copyright of their papers. But this license permits any user to download, print out, extract, reuse, archive, and distribute the article, so long as appropriate credit is given to the authors and the source of the work. The license ensures that the article will be available as widely as possible and that the article can be included in any scientific archive.
Plagiarism Policy
The author should submit an original manuscript and an unpublished article to Al-Mustansiriyah Journal of Science. The manuscript must include a proper citation without plagiarism/duplication from previous studies. The manuscript is submitted to Turnitin's plagiarism detection software before being sent to the reviewers. Al-Mustansiriyah Journal of Science editorial board will reject the manuscript if the plagiarism score above 20% is detected at any stage of the publication process. In addition, the journal will not accept manuscripts submitted elsewhere.
Archive Policy
Digital Archiving: Al-Mustansiriyah Journal of Science is an open-access journal, which allows access to all published papers on its website without any charge. Also, the published papers in the journal are archived in the following archive system in Iraq:
These services allow to create of an advanced searchable index of journal archives and keeping a record of all the open-access archives of the journals of the University of Baghdad and other Iraqi journals that contain information on a broad array of subjects with multidisciplinary knowledge to facilitate the efficient dissemination of content and increasing the availability of scholarly communication.
Backups: MJS implements an additional backup policy to protect against data loss.
Onsite Backup: The onsite full server backups provide disaster recovery options to help protect against data loss or corruption. Onsite backups are run daily by the host and retained for 7 days by default. The backup is performed on the main hosting server hetzner, and the substitute hosting server ovh.
Remote Backup: MJS ensures 7-days backup of the OJS database and daily backup of the cPanel for disaster recovery.
Payment and publication fee
Al-Mustansiriyah Journal of Science is an open-access journal. There are no subscription fees. There is no charge until the manuscript is accepted for publication.
The journal charges for a single accepted manuscript as follows:
- 150000 IQD for authors residing in Iraq to support publishing service costs, even if there is a foreign co-author.
- Elsewhere, the publication fee is Free* (standard fee: USD 100).
*This discount is valid for all foreign authors who wish to submit their articles by December 31, 2024.

Journal History
Al-Mustansiriyah Journal of Science was founded in 1976 and released its inaugural volume in 1976. However, from 1980 to 1988, publication was interrupted due to the Iraq-Iran war. During this period, the journal was unable to produce new issues as there was no internet service available in Iraq.
In 2005, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Affairs introduced the "Iraqi Academic Scientific Journals" website, which aimed to offer electronic copies of journal articles from various Iraqi universities. This initiative marked a significant step toward making academic content more accessible.
Due to the disruptions caused by the Gulf War, several issues of the journal published before 2005 were lost. To ensure the availability of its articles online in case of future uncertainties, the journal began indexing its content in the Iraqi Academic Scientific Journals database starting in 2005.
In 2016, Al-Mustansiriyah Journal of Science took another leap forward by implementing an online management system for reviewing and publishing articles electronically. This transformation enabled the journal to secure an electronic ISSN, establish a presence on the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), and obtain a Crossref account, enabling the provision of DOI (Digital Object Identifiers) for its articles.
In the same year, 2016, the journal adopted a dual publication approach, releasing its issues both on its website and on the Iraqi Academic Scientific Journals platform, beginning with Volume 27, Issue 4. This move aimed to broaden the accessibility of its valuable scientific content to a wider audience.
